As we enter fall and escape the high temperatures inherent in the last vestiges of a California summer, my thoughts are drawn to food. I’ve caught myself looking longingly at my teensy crock pot. I’m guilty of having two pumpkin pies cooling on the counter and a 3rd in the oven.
I want to stray off-topic here for a moment to say I remember when a can of Libby’s Pumpkin made two deep-dish pumpkin pies. Now it makes 3. The size of the can is the same as always. It’s the pie crusts that have changed. If the deep-dish pie crust has been reduced enough that I can now make 3 pies, I’d hate to see what they’ve done to the regular pie crust. What is it with companies these days? Why can’t they continue, like Libby’s, to give us a good value year after year? Value we can trust? This is pie crust for crying out loud - it’s not gold. Charge more if you must, but give us what the label says (i.e. 2 deep dish pie crusts).
And now back to your regularly scheduled program.
The true purpose of this post is two-fold. One is to announce that I’ll be working on two cookbooks. The first is a regular cookbook for poison-free recipes and the second is a poison-free cookbook for singles filled with meals (and measurements) for ONE.
I’ve been frustrated for years talking with singles and hearing them say they eat processed, restaurant, or fast food because they “don’t want to go to the trouble when it’s just them”. This makes me insane. Who, if not you, deserves the finest food you are capable of making? Really. Who deserves it more than you? If you really believe you don’t deserve good food because you are cooking for yourself alone, you have issues and you should come in to talk with me about them or see your own clergy or shrink. Honestly. You can’t even care for other people if you have not first taken care of yourself, so eating crap food just because you are alone is just some weird sort of punishment or an “I’ll wait for my life to begin (when I have a partner) before I start making nice meals” sort of problem.
So… my goal is to teach singles everywhere that they do deserve quality food and teach them how to select, store, and cook their precious grocery booty. I was a single mother for 13-1/2 long years. We were really poor while my son was growing up and couldn’t afford even occasional trips to a restaurant until his teen years, so I learned to cook restaurant style meals so I wouldn’t feel like I was deprived of anything. I learned to be a gourmet level cook during those lean years. Funny how the hard times hone us. Many times my son didn’t like what I was making - like Linguine Crab Alfredo for instance - so I’d let him have his Beefaroni and would make my own meal for one.
The other purpose of this post is to discuss what good food really is. They irradiate our foods, gas our meats (not to mention selling us diseased, tainted, tortured meat to begin with), genetically modify some of our foods, and put poisonous chemicals in our foods that not only make us fat and sick, but are used to make us eat more of the foods that are making us fat and sick. This is not an exhaustive list of what they do, but if you doubt my words, put on your investigative thinking cap and start searching for info on the web. You’ll see what I mean.
We used to think a time when our government and shadow government were poisoning us, controling us, and otherwise killing us was some distant time in the future, but I’m telling you… the future is here. If you want to get the amount of life you were destined to have in this go-round, you need to unplug from the television and media like newspapers and most magazines, do your own research, take charge of your own health care, grow and cull as much of your own food as possible, and COOK FOR YOURSELF. Yes, from scratch. Yes, I mean it. The only way you are not eating processed, poison food is to make it yourself. Take control of your own food process as much as you are able.
If it comes in a package, don’t eat it. Get smart about what’s good for you and what isn’t. Don’t think your government or the big food companies are looking out for your health. You’re a dollar sign to them, nothing else (unless you want to count “impressionable sheep” in there). Wise up, wake up. It’s still survival of the fittest in this world and we are being set up to be in unfit and unhealthy and totally placated by tv. Why is that you think? All the answers are scary.
Seriously, if you don’t believe me, start searching google and see for yourself. Search on the dangers of soy, what happens to milk when you pasteurize it, what happens to veggies when you irradiate them, what is being done to our meat via gas at the store and improper kill techniques at the slaughter house. Read about what high fructose corn syrup really does to a body and while you’re at it look up the dangers of artificial sweeteners, study what soda does to your teeth and bones and blood sugar. Look up how many deaths in Amercia are caused by doctors. Investigate the what happens with long term use of birth control pills, inhaled corticosteroids, and antibiotics. Then come back and let’s talk about what we can do to protect our bodies and the bodies of our children and loved ones.
